what would you do if you were given an unused rifle shooting range?
a fortress so to say
underutilized
with room for so much potential
we asked some students from our One School One Garden (OSOG) program at Castlemont High School in East Oakland for visionary ideas on how we could use the rifle shooting range
they came up with some of the core values listed on right of the board – an ecosystem, with fresh healthy food, an escape from gangs, guns and violence that so rules the streets of East Oakland, by reusing our resources, to build a stable economy that addresses basic needs – a place for peace and love. they came up with guns to gardens g2g.
so we asked them to come up with a conceptual design that was reflective of their thoughts. dreams turn into ideas by sketching and putting things in paper. below drawing ideas on paper in the gun room entrance.
next was turning the ideas into an actual design. ideas start taking form through modelling by using computer software. here the students use sketchup to build their conceptual ideas working as a team
design work behind us, it was time to start clearing the space up.
